THE STORY BEHIND THE NATHIVERSE

My ultimate passion is storytelling. I am driven by a need to find emotionally captivating stories and bring them to life. I expect a massive amount from myself because creating meaningful, expressive work is what makes my life worth living.

When I hand a client a final piece of work - whether it is a collection of wedding photos, a documentary, or a commercial promo - my goal is to show them a story within themselves that they couldn't see, and to move them in a way they never expected.

Where It Started: Six Strings and a Timeline

My creative journey truly began with the guitar, 25 years ago. Heavily inspired by 1960s blues-rock legends like Jimi Hendrix and Cream, I expanded my repertoire into jazz, country, and particularly to the fingerstyle of Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel. That drive to push boundaries eventually led me to share stages with the late folk legend Vin Garbutt, as well as guitar greats like Erik Mongrain and Albert Lee. I didn't wait for those opportunities to fall into my lap; I saw they were playing locally, reached out to the venues, and chose to make it a reality.

Around the same time, my mother enrolled me in a half-term short film course at The Engine Room in Bridgwater. That single week sparked a 20-year obsession with video editing and filmmaking that would eventually become the cornerstone of The Nathiverse.

The Kitchen, The Gym, and The Art of Logistics

If you want to know how I handle a massive, complex video edit, you have to look at my time in commercial catering.

My lifelong passion for food - sparked at age 10, and shot off to the moon by a handwritten reply from Ainsley Harriott to a recipe I had sent him - eventually led me to take the helm of my family farm's events kitchen by necessity. Running and building a family business requires an extraordinary capacity for work, and catering for 150 people is 95 per cent logistics. At first, the sheer volume of work can seem overwhelming. But if you break that massive whole down into smaller, actionable chunks - such as chopping 10kg of onions, portioning out 20 chickens, etc - before you know it, service is running flawlessly. (I also spent this time becoming an expert in fermented dough, mastering sourdough and my ultimate culinary passion: pizza).

Tackling a huge documentary edit is exactly the same. It can seem daunting, but one applies the discipline, one starts doing the work, and before long, the narrative emerges.

When the family events business eventually closed, I needed to pivot. Having spent the best part of fifteen years in the gym, and studying exercise in a personal capacity to ensure I was working out optimally, I qualified as a Personal Trainer and went to work in the very gym I had been training in for that time.

The Nat Cave: The Creative Laboratory

While The Nathiverse is the banner under which I collaborate with clients, my YouTube channel, The Nat Cave, is where I channel my creativity for personal projects. It is my dedicated hub for deep-dive documentary filmmaking, soundtrack analysis, and storytelling. Whether I am exploring the legacy of a sporting icon or breaking down the emotional resonance of a classic video game score, The Nat Cave serves as the testing ground where I hone my craft, experiment with new techniques, and push my own boundaries.

What This Means For Your Project

What does a background in live music, commercial catering, and fitness have to do with your video or photography project? Everything.

It means I understand the relentless discipline required to master a craft. As well as being an extremely creative person, I hold myself to the highest professional standards.

It means I know exactly how to light the biomechanics of a gym shoot, and how to capture the mouth-watering aesthetics of a culinary dish. Most importantly, it means I know how to navigate the intense logistics of a high-pressure production day, such as a wedding or a corporate shoot without ever losing sight of the art.

The Nathiverse is the culmination of all these disciplines. It is a space where 25 years of diverse, hands-on experience come together to tell your story perfectly.
